BENTON, Ky. — FLW Outdoors announced its 2008 Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Tour schedule today complete with top awards of $100,000 in every qualifier and $150,000 in the Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Tour Championship to be held Nov. 14-16 in Biloxi, Miss.
In 2008, the nation’s top kingfish teams will fish five events – four $300,000 qualifiers and a $500,000 no-entry-fee championship – for a share of $1.7 million cash. Every stop will be featured in a one-hour episode of “FLW Outdoors,” which is broadcast to 81 million FSN (Fox Sports Net) subscribers in the United States. “FLW Outdoors” is also broadcast in Canada on WFN (World Fishing Network) and to more than 429 million households in the United Kingdom, Europe, Russia, Australia, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East through a distribution agreement with Matchroom Sport, making it the most widely distributed fishing program in the world. The program airs Sunday mornings at 11 Eastern time.
The top award in each qualifier includes $40,000 plus $60,000 in Hydra-Sports, Scarab, Seaswirl, Wellcraft, Yamaha and Evinrude contingency bonuses. The top award in the championship includes $75,000 plus $75,000 in boat and engine contingency bonuses. Payouts in every qualifier extend through 20th place, which pays as much as $4,500.
Qualifying tournaments run Friday through Sunday, with a full field of 100 boats competing on the first two days and the top five teams advancing to day three. Winners are determined by the weight of the heaviest kingfish from Friday or Saturday plus the heaviest kingfish from Sunday. Sunday weigh-ins will be held at local Wal-Mart stores.
Competition will kick off May 16-18 in Sarasota, Fla., followed by tournaments Aug. 15-17 in Venice, La.; Sept. 12-14 in Orange Beach, Ala.; and Oct. 17-19 in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. Each qualifier, and the FLW Kingfish Tour Championship, will be held in conjunction with a Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Series tournament at the same venue.
Entry fees for 2008 remain unchanged at $1,500 per team for each qualifying event. The top 50 teams from the 2007 FLW Kingfish Tour will have priority entry into the 2008 season along with the top five teams from each division of the 2007 FLW Kingfish Series.
